17/02/2012
February 2012 sees the official opening of John Thompson & Partners new studio set within a refurbished warehouse building in the bustling Xintiandi district of Shanghai.
JTP's internationally renowned team of architects and urban designers has been working in China since 2009, building an extensive portfolio of strategic masterplans, mixed-use city districts and new communities across the country.
Alan Stewart, Partner and CEO of JTP China, said
"The opening of our new office here in Shanghai heralds the next phase of our strategic business plan and allows us to build the team, our offer and our service to valued clients in China, and we are very much looking forward to the coming year."
JTP China has recently been instructed to lead a multi-disciplinary team in the detailed urban design of Liubu, a market town south of Jinan, in Shandong Province. The commission, one of the studio's largest to date, will involve the regeneration of an initial 100 hectare phase, focused around a new mixed-use, pedestrian street designed to link the town centre with existing sites of national historical significance, including a Sui Dynasty, 4-Gate Pagoda of the Shentong Monastery.
The project, which builds upon a strategic study of the town and its outlying rural communities completed by the JTP team in 2011, will integrate flood prevention and water improvement initiatives and a new green transportation network, as part of a town-wide environmental and landscape strategy.
