[ Back ]Sustainable Masterplanning - JTP Present the Bigger Picture
16/01/2012
Fred London and Edward Barsley were invited to present JTP's expertise in Sustainable Masterplanning at a seminar on "Innovation in Sustainable Buildings" organised by Breathing Buildings, a Cambridge-based consultancy specialising in the natural ventilation and energy efficient ventilation of buildings.
The seminar took place in the Cambridge University Engineering Department and included presentations by a range of experts whose work focuses on cutting-edge research and practice in the design of naturally-ventilated, low energy buildings. Click here to see the Breathing Buildings news story.
JTP's presentation sets out the extremely wide range of inter-related issues that need to be considered and integrated in order to generate an efficient, low-energy and low emission urban structure. The presentation includes examples from Europe and the Middle East, but concentrates on JTP's Suzhou Eco-Town project in China, going into more detail to show how site-specific seasonal sun and wind modelling can be used to determine urban layouts, as part of the bio-climatic design approach to city-planning. Applying the principles of bio-climatic design at the masterplan scale can offer a significant reduction of the overall energy demand of these new settlements, with a corresponding reduction of the energy consumption of individual buildings.
