Planning Application for 400 homes at the Slade End Farm site submitted
Updated 20 April 2011
Following extensive public engagement, a planning application for 400 homes and other uses has been submitted for the Slade End Farm site, Wallingford on behalf of PRUPIM. The application has now been registered and given registration number of P11/W0552/O. It will appear on SODC’s web site under the reference P11/W0552/O within the next few days. For the SODC’s website, click here.
The site has been identified to provide for the growth of the town in South Oxfordshire District Council's draft Core Strategy. The proposals include a new primary school, landscaping, play areas and a public square at the heart of the neighbourhood. Footpaths and cycle paths will be enhanced as will local public transport and there will be a major programme of tree planting across the site. In line with South Oxfordshire District Council's desire to see an increase in the availability of Extra Care facilities providing appropriate accommodation for the elderly, the plans include a building which will provide 60 homes specifically tailored to the elderly which will offer a range of care services to residents.
It is the intention of PRUPIM to hold a further public exhibition of the submitted plans in May 2011.

SODC approve Slade End Farm (Site B) as preferred location for new homes in Wallingford: 14 December 2010
South Oxfordshire District Council recently decided to approve Slade End Farm (Site B) as their preferred location for around 400 new homes in Wallingford. We are naturally pleased that the SODC has seen the merits of Site B and welcome the news that it will now go forward to the next stage of the Core Strategy process as the preferred option. There was a strong vote in support of the draft Core Strategy but we are also aware of the importance of working with Councillors who raised concerns about Site B so that we can improve the proposals that we will be bringing forward. We will also work with the Education Department and the planners with regard to the inclusion of a school within the development of Slade End Farm (Site B).
PRUPIM’s intention is to submit a planning application for the site in April 2011 and it is our intention in advance of this to launch a new project website and to hold a public exhibition of the final draft proposals.
Slade End Farm, Wallingford Public Exhibition
Monday 18th October 2010, Wallingford Town Hall
The community of Wallingford was invited to view and comment on the latest emerging development proposals for Slade End Farm in Wallingford ('Site B'). This drop-in event was open to everybody and provided an opportunity to meet the team and find out more about the latest proposals for the site.
The exhibition followed on from some of the ideas that were developed at the Community Planning Event in July 2009 where the Vision for the Slade End Farm site was created. Since that time, SODC have produced a Draft Submission Core Strategy document which included the allocation of the Slade End Farm site for 750 new dwellings. However, this document was subsequently withdrawn prior to consideration at Committee. Following a period of uncertainty related to changing national and regional planning policy, SODC has now resolved to progress their Core Strategy and the Slade End Farm site remains one of the preferred strategic sites.
The Slade End Farm team has monitored these developments very carefully. Promoters of other sites in Wallingford are now coming forward with planning applications, notably at Winterbrook 'Site E', and since we believe Slade End Farm represents the best location for an expansion of the town we are now working on the submission of a planning application for the site. Our current thinking formed the basis of the exhibition on 18th October. You can view the exhibition and the Newsletter summarising the key issues that emerged from the exhibition at the in the PDF's located on the right-hand side.
Public Exhibition: 15 September 2009
An exhibition was held at the Regal Centre from 4pm - 8pm on Tuesday 15 September for local residents to be able to view the proposals for development.
Community Planning Day: 11 July 2009
A Community Planning Day was held in July 2009. The event was an opportunity for local people to share their hopes and fears relating to the future growth of Wallingford. The second part of the day included a series of workshops where attendees were given the opportunity to work with the design team in expressing ideas for the enhancement of Wallingford and its existing residents and businesses. The team took these ideas away, and used them to develop initial proposals for Slade End Farm. These were first presented at a Report Back on 28th July 2009, and at a subsequent public exhibition on 15th September 2009 at The Regal Centre, Wallingford.
